Software updates and upgrades can seem pretty similar and many users are asking- what's the difference?
In software terms, an update is meant to address two objectives: to correct bugs within the software that makes it perform less than optimal and to add new major features and tools. When you update, you are updating the software version and the patch number. AnyDesk does not update automatically. The update process has to be initiated manually. How to install mobile app in pc. When a new version is available, this is indicated by the blue box in the connection tab. Click on the link showing the latest version number to update AnyDesk. The good news are that our updates for free and all our versions are compatible with each other.
With an upgrade however, you can basically add complementing capabilities to your existing license or change to a more advanced license by paying an extra fee. For example: adding an extra seat to your existing Lite License, adding more simultaneous connections or the Power User option to your existing Professional license or maybe upgrading from Lite to Professional.
Let's refresh some of the concepts mentioned before:
A seat is an AnyDesk installation that has been linked to your license. You use it to connect remotely into another host computer (e.g. a remote machine, a server, etc.), or to receive connections (e.g. to present your screen). So, the license's number of seats matches the number of PCs that your license can be used from. This number may be limited depending on your license.
PowerUser is a tariff option that converts your license's concurrent AnyDesk sessions into what we call active seats. From an active seat, you can open as many sessions to other PCs as you like – there's no limit. You can open all the sessions you need from an active seat, at the same time. No need to close a session in order to open a new one.
The Professional and Enterprise versions of AnyDesk support multiple simultaneous connections. Incoming and outgoing sessions are counted separately. This means that a customer with an 'AnyDesk Professional' license and three simultaneous connections can access up to three remote desktops and be controlled from three remote desktops at the same time.
Below you can find some common upgrades examples:
- Client A bought a Lite License last September and January this year decided to purchase 2 extra seats in order to install and use his license from 3 different devices: PC at home, laptop and tablet.
- Client B owns an IT support company and Next Saturday he would like to install updates on his customer's PC pool (about 30 computers). He wants to connect to every PC at the same time, so that he can cycle through them and make adjustments here and there. He purchased AnyDesk Professional a few months ago and now he needs to add the Power User option to his existing license.
- Client C bought a Lite License last summer to provide support to customers once in a while. But business is growing, he bought several new clients and now he will hire an extra employee but he realized that his AnyDesk Lite license does not meet the needs anymore. Two people working at the same time means he needs to upgrade to AnyDesk Professional with one extra simultaneous connection.
- Client D works for a call center providing support to customers who need help with technical issues. When the project started they were only 5 employees but now they are welcoming on board 20 new colleagues, that meaning they need to add 20 simultaneous connections to the existing license, as well as 20 new entries to their namespace @client-d.
Note: When you upgrade AnyDesk we only charge the difference between your current and the new license.
